If you’re considering buying a new home (or selling your old one), one of your most important tasks is to find the right professionals to help you. You’ll need a good realtor, of course – that’s why I’m here – and possibly other professionals such as a real estate lawyer, contractor, cleaner, carpet installer, plumber, electrician, moving company, and more.
How do you find the right people to make your move go smoothly? Anyone who has every seen product reviews online knows – for every product, professional, or service, there are people who love it and people who hate it. And who knows which people you’re more likely to agree with?
Start With Someone You Know
You’ll feel much more secure if you start with professionals you already know in some way.
If you already know and trust a contractor, for example, it makes sense to start there.
Consider Those Who Have Reached Out
Professionals who have taken the time to reach out to you by way of a visit, phone call, or helpful newsletters (like this one) are the kind who typically go the extra mile in all other areas too. They’ve demonstrated their interest in getting to know you and being of service, so it makes sense to give them a call.
Ask for Recommendations
Talk to friends, neighbors, family, or professional that you trust (and that know you pretty well) and ask for recommendations. Chances are, a good company to the people you know will be a good company to you.
You’ll find that most professionals (especially realtors, like me), have a network of trusted people and companies they recommend. I know just about every very good (and very not good) home service professional in the area.
