Clutter can make a gorgeous home look… well, not so great! But sorting, cleaning, and fighting to constant battle against clutter is tough. It can feel like a never ending process. The good news is, it doesn’t need to feel so relentless.
While it’s definitely important to get into the habit of picking up and sorting through your “everyday” clutter, there are also some helpful tips that can help you alleviate clutter with ease. These tips will help you to feel like you’re ahead of the game, instead of always fighting a losing battle.
Here are 4 tips to declutter that only take a few minutes:
- Get rid of things you haven’t used in a year- It’s easy to hold onto things that we think we might someday use. But the truth is, if you haven’t used it, worn it, or read it in a year, chances are you probably won’t! Of course, there is room for a few sentimental objects in every home. But it’s tough to enjoy your home and the items in it when it’s overflowing with clutter.
- Take note of your “high traffic” clutter areas- There are certain places in every home that just seem to love clutter. Think about counter tops, end tables, and coffee tables — these are often the areas where we place items we don’t know where to put. These are the areas that need tending to every single day. The good news is, it only takes a minute to sort through those high traffic areas if we do it each day.
- Find a home for EVERYTHING – One of the biggest reasons clutter accumulates is because our things don’t have a home. Take the time to take note of those items that are always laying around and find a drawer, a closet, or even create a new space altogether where they belong.
- Clear out anything that is broken – If something is broken and it isn’t worth fixing, let it go. It might be easier said than done, but feeling the relief of unused and broken items sitting around will be huge.
