One of the most fun parts of house hunting is looking at all the different kinds of homes on the market and figuring out which kind you’re most interested in buying. You might have an idea of what kind of home you want, especially if you’re shopping for your forever home. But while you’re wandering in and out of different properties, your thinking can shift. Different layouts aren’t only appealing to different tastes, they function in different ways, too.
Your age or the age of family members you’ll be living with, your location, or even your job or your hobbies, can all be important factors in what kind of homes you spend the most time looking at. So, it’s important to understand the benefits of each!
Here are 4 different kinds of layouts and their perks:
- Ranch- A ranch-style home has tons of benefits. The layout is horizontal, making each room extremely accessible. There are no stairs, and with everything on one level, that makes it a great layout for elderly people, those with disabilities, or even families with small children who may worry about stairs.
- Split level- On the other hand, split-level homes are popular because they offer good separation between floors. If you have older kids or teens who crave space, an older relative living with you, or even frequent house guests, split levels can offer the privacy everyone needs.
- Bungalow- These days, open floor plans are in. Bungalow style homes have that box checked. They’re also usually built on large lots so they’re great for those who love their privacy from neighbors.
- Cape Cod- This type of home is typically easy to maintain! They are energy-efficient and easy to heat, too. Another perk is that they have small roofers than most other kinds of homes making them affordable to replace.
