It’s getting cold out there! But it shouldn’t be cold inside your home. Heating bills can cost a fortune and that’s a worry you just don’t need, especially when there are tons of ways to keep warm this winter. Not only can you stay warm without a lot of fuss, you can add some flair to your home in the process and up its value!
Here are 3 ways to save big on energy bills this winter:
- Make sure your home is properly insulated — One of the biggest reasons your home may be losing heat is a lack of insulation. Make sure that your home is insulated and if not, you can usually get it done pretty cheaply or even purchase insulation and do it yourself. Also, check your basement, attic, and windows to find any holes where you may be losing heat. Keeping the heat inside your home is the best way to stay warm! Simply caulking around areas where heat is slipping out can save an average household 10 to 20 percent on annual heating and cooling bills.
- Stock up on blankets — Throw blankets aren’t just cute, they keep you warm! Adding blankets to all of the rooms you regularly hang out in can definitely lower your bills. Instead of always cranking the heat every time you feel a chill, get in the habit of getting cozy under a new snuggly blanket. Sherpa is in!
3. Invest in a wood-burning stove — It’s an investment, for sure, but a wood-burning stove can heat your entire home and end up saving you hundreds, if not thousands, a year! If you’re able to install it on your own, you’ll only pay for the cost of the stove. In many cases, you can find a used wood-burning stove for cheap! But if you buy one new, you’ll probably pay around $1,200-$1,500. But you’ll also instantly increase the value of your home. Also, it smells amazing all winter long!
